Job Summary:

The SNAP Program Coordinator oversees helping individuals and families access SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits by providing information and assistance with applications, connecting with community members, and building relationships with local organizations and community partners. The coordinator will also focus on reaching communities and populations that are underrepresented in SNAP participation and help ensure they are aware of and able to access available benefits.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Research census and community data to identify Long Island communities eligible for SNAP benefits and develop targeted outreach strategies.
  • Build and maintain partnerships with community agencies and sites to expand SNAP outreach and volunteer opportunities.
  • Respond to referrals and inquiries and connect individuals with Island Harvest programs and services.
  • Coordinate with government agencies and community partners to support and track SNAP enrollment and application assistance.
  • Track and report measurable outreach and application assistance outcomes.
  • Stay informed about changes to public assistance laws, regulations, and available resources.
  • Coordinate appointments and visits to the Island Harvest onsite Market.
  • Complete routine administrative responsibilities, including correspondence, filing, phone calls, and mailings.
  • Assist with special projects, events, and other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Services or equivalent work experience.
  • 2-4 years of relevant work and/or volunteer experience dealing with the public.
  • Proficient in Microsoft applications (Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • Must possess excellent communication skills.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is required.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle is required.

Physical Requirements & Work Conditions

Incumbents in this role must be available to work Monday through Friday during standard business hours. The position is performed primarily in a general office environment and requires periods of sitting and frequent computer use, as well as regular travel throughout the region to support community outreach, partner engagement, and program activities. Candidates must be able to lift and carry up to 30 pounds. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the position.

Hourly rate: $25.00/hr.
