Food insecure individuals and their families are at higher risk for chronic health conditions including diabetes, high blood pressure and obesity.

The Nutritionists at Island Harvest work to achieve the best outcomes for the people we serve by addressing the nutritional quality of food in tandem with the pressing issue of food insecurity. Our Nutrition and Wellness Programs provide member agencies and their clients with the information and skills necessary to support a healthier lifestyle through nutrition education workshops, cooking demonstrations and food tastings. Program messages are reinforced with written and electronic materials that highlight simple, budget-friendly food preparation ideas and healthy recipes. In recent years, these efforts have been expanded to include partnerships with Hospitals and Community Based Organizations across Long Island.
