Workforce Development Trainee Coordinator

ISLAND HARVEST has the following exciting position available in our Melville, New York office:

Workforce Development Trainee Coordinator

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Establish rapport with participants, build trust and evoke motivation to complete programs and certifications.
  • Coordinate wrap-around services, including assessment, intervention and referrals, as necessary.
  • Provide in-program support of participants via individual meetings, email, phone calls.
  • Lead weekly check-ins with trainees as part of monitoring and evaluation oversight.
  • Maintain chronological program notes and documentation.
  • Offer hands-on support and follow-up to trainees through structured training and job search lifecycle…
  • Conduct post-grad coaching and on-the-job coaching, assisting graduates and employers with post-placement success and continuing needs.
  • Collaborate with Nutrition and Community Empowerment teams to achieve program goals.
  • Build on existing relationships with local workforce boards and other community and referring agencies.
  • Assist in recruiting events, participant outreach, candidate acceptance process and follow up.
  • Manage program attendance, punctuality and accountability and follow up as necessary.
  • Monitor need for further work readiness and bridge programming as necessary for candidate success.
  • Support Director in representing WSDI (Workforce Skills Development Institute) to all stakeholders (employers, local government, community based and other organizations that foster job development, instructors and vendors).

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or Communications or a related field of study, or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of demonstrated experience working in training/ workforce/professional development programs or student-facing initiatives and supporting in-person and/or virtual programs and events. Must have previous experience working with diverse populations.
  • Knowledge of Long Island workforce needs.
  • Aptitude for working in a newly created role, managing multiple responsibilities simultaneously while working within deadlines and applying attention to detail.
  • Proficient in computer applications (Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint and the Internet)
  • Bi-lingual in English and Spanish is a plus.
