Fighting hunger is more than providing meals. At Island Harvest Food Bank, we know that we also must fight the root causes that lead to hunger.
We tirelessly advocate on behalf of individuals and families affected by hunger throughout the region and nationally to:
– increase public awareness of the prevalence of hunger;
– encourage residents, communities and local civic leaders to get involved and make a difference; and
– support the 450 registered member agencies within our network to provide holistic solutions to the problems their clients face from hunger and its root causes.
We also provide robust mobile education, outreach, mediation and enrollment assistance for Long Islanders who are eligible for benefits through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (food stamps).
