This position is responsible for consulting and training food pantries and kitchens in various health initiatives, leading a team of dietitians who provide medical nutrition therapy and education to patients in clinical settings, oversight of Island Harvest’s nutrition policies, Healthy Harvest Pantry, and medically tailored food prescription programming. Serves as the main nutrition resource for Island Harvest and member agencies by providing nutrition and cooking programs, classes, workshops, webinars, trainings, recipes and educational materials.
Responsibilities will include:
- Supervise our staff of Nutritionists, manage their medical nutrition therapy programming and oversee healthy pantries hosted in medical centers and at Island Harvest.
- Develop and oversee Enhanced Nutrition Services programming, including prescription food pantry stocking programs related to New York State’s Medicaid 1115 waiver.
- Manage, create, and evaluate Island Harvest’s current nutrition education curriculum.
- Build and enhance relationships with agencies. Engage community partners and general public of Island Harvest’s mission and strategy through presentations. Serve as liaison to community resources for Network Partners.
- Provide nutrition education and training to Island Harvest’s Workforce Skills Development Institute students and neighbors enrolled in other Island Harvest programs.
- Train partner agency staff as needed on nutrition related topics, such as food safety and meal planning.
- Train partner agencies to implement their own nutrition education programs at their facility.
- Increase awareness of the relationship between hunger, obesity and overall health in the community through presentations.
The ideal candidate will have the following:
- Bachelor’s degree from a college or university in Nutrition, Dietetics, Public Health, Social Services or a related field or equivalent experiences. Master’s Degree in Nutrition, Public Health, Social Work, or related field is highly desirable.
- Registered Dietitian (RD) required.
- 2 – 4 years of community nutrition work, including at least 1 year in a supervisory position.
- Safe food handling certification a plus.
- Non-Profit experience working in community-based services is highly desired.
Salary: $68,000 – $70,000 per year.
