Turkey And Trimmings Collection Campaign
Turkey and Trimmings Collection Campaign.
As you know, the holiday season can be especially difficult for those living with food insecurity. Island Harvest organizes an intensive initiative during the months of November and December—the Turkey and Trimmings Collection Campaign. Friends and neighbors donate frozen turkeys, other holiday food items, and nonperishable pantry staples so that all Long Islanders can enjoy special holiday meals and be able to count on regular meals through the holiday season.
For so many people across Long Island, the Turkey and Trimmings Collection Campaign have come to mark the start of the holiday season. The Campaign is eagerly anticipated—and it means thousands of needed meals for individuals and families in Nassau and Suffolk counties. Island Harvest Food Bank proudly reports the 2017 campaign brought in more than 9,000 turkeys and distributed approximately 2 million pounds of food, supplementing nearly 1.7 million holiday meals!
