Farming and Gardening
The Farming and Gardening Internship is an exciting opportunity for a curious nature lover to learn how Island Harvest leverages community resources to grow fresh produce for Long Islanders in need. This position will train the intern in a wide variety of organic farming techniques, managing a small-scale diversified regenerative farm, and facilitating hands-on education and training with volunteers and students.
Qualifications
- Some knowledge of and interest in sustainable agriculture, gardening, and local food systems.
- Strong organizational skills and sharp attention to detail
- Passion for community outreach and education
- Love of nature and a willingness to work outdoors in most weather conditions
- Strong public speaking skills preferred but not required
Job Duties
This position will support our Healthy Harvest Farm by performing farm tasks including but not limited to plant propagation, transplanting, weeding, and harvesting. Interns may work with various farm tools and lead groups of volunteers in farm tasks.
Time requirements
10-25 hours per week, Mon-Sun according to availability.
