2010 Summer Food Blitz

We began the Summer Food Blitz in 2007 to address a perennial spike in demand for food assistance during the summer months. This is caused in-part by the loss of school lunch & breakfast benefits for many children, and their families’ scramble for assistance to make up for these losses while school is out for the summer.

On select days in July and August, we rally hundreds of volunteers, food companies, and member feeding programs to meet in a central location and transfer about 500,000 pounds of food. The feeding programs take this food to their facilities, where those who need it can get it
