Hunger In America

Island Harvest, along with Long Island Cares, participated  in one of the most in-depth studies of hunger on Long Island.  The objective was to describe the nature of hunger and food insecurity in our area as experienced by clients of Island Harvest's member food pantries, soup kitchens and other feeding programs.

The study provides annual and weekly estimates of the number of clients who use our feeding programs. It also examines their demographic profiles and the extent to which their food needs are met by local feeding programs.  Below, you will find both the full report as well as a summary of key points.
