Attention Member Agencies,
Each summer there is an increase in demand for food with our member agencies. In our efforts to meet this need the Food Blitz event will provide our member agencies with between 1000-3000 pounds of food and product. The amount of food and product is based on the space each member agency has to store food safely. There will be 3 distribution blocks throughout the day. All “active” Suffolk and Nassau County Member Agencies are welcome to attend. In order to be an “active” member agency you must have a food safety certificate, be up to date with monthly surveys, and able to store food safely.
Through the coordination of the Agency Relations Department and Operations Department staff will be contacting member agencies with a time to report on the day of the Food Blitz. There will be enough food in all categories to equally distribute to all member agencies in the 3 distribution blocks. Please do not arrive to the distribution site prior to your block time. Your member agency will not be served early and will be asked to wait. We are respectful of the time each member agency spends at the event and are planning to serve each member agency in an organized process.
The three distribution blocks of time are as follows:
Block #1: 7:00am-9:00am
Block #2: 10:00am-12:00pm
Block #3: 1:00pm-3:00pm
The location of the Nassau County Food Blitz will be at the Nassau County Community College. The Suffolk County Food Blitz location will be announced once it is finalized. This information will be available on the Island Harvest Food Bank website and it will also be e-mailed to the member agency contact within a week of the event.
Please call the Agency Relations Department (631-873-4775) with any questions or concerns.
