2007 Turkey and Trimmings Collection Campaign
Final Report

Island Harvest’s 2007 Turkey and Trimmings Collection Campaign, Sponsored by Motorola and Waldbaums, ran from November 1 through December 31.  The campaign was advertised via print, radio and word of mouth. 

Outcomes

  • Over $90,625.00 raised in support of the Turkey and Trimmings Collection Campaign
  • More than 1,566,000 pounds of product delivered in November and December, supplementing more than 1,223,600 meal
  • Approximately 8,935 turkeys, hams, and turkey coupons delivered during campaign period
  • 11,008 Waldbaums trimmings bags sold
  • $5,504 raised through selling trimmings bags
    • Island Harvest received $.50 for each bag sold
  • $5,474 raised through cut-outs sold at registers
    • $3,869 raised from $1 cut-outs
    • $1,605 raised from $5 cut-outs

  • 13 Stop and Shop locations selected Island Harvest as the recipient of their Food for Friends campaign
    • Represents an increase of 3 stores  from 2006
  • 42 food collections held outside Pathmark and ShopRite stores throughout Nassau and Suffolk
  • 9 Radio Remotes held at Waldbaums locations
  • 381 food drives held at businesses, schools, community and religious organizations throughout Long Island Harvest collected 132,508 pounds
    • 256 in Nassau County
    • 125 in Suffolk County

Volunteers

  • 374 volunteers donating more than 1,600 hours
    • 317 people for supermarket collections
    • 8 people in the Island Harvest office
    • 19 food transporters
    • 155 sorters and packers (through Citibank Global Day)

Campaign Highlights

  • All locations of The Bristal Assisted Living (5 in Nassau County), Panera Bread (15 throughout Nassau and Suffolk Counties), Citibank (75 throughout Nassau and Suffolk Counties), and Bill’s Friendly served as Official Campaign Drop-off sites throughout Nassau and Suffolk Counties.
  • The NY Islanders held a food drive at their home game on 11/10 and collected over $160 and 15 turkeys
  • “Stuff the Mayflower”, a partnership between Molloy Brothers Moving and Storage and Island Harvest held 11/9 and 11/10, garnered 1,560 turkeys, 25,486 pounds of food  (including 406 trimmings bags) and over $300
  • Nicolia Industries held a Food Drive on 12/15, collecting 1,200lbs
  • “Stuff the Sunroom”, held on 12/22 at the Waldbaums in Garden City Park in conjunction with Four Seasons’ Home Products, garnered 461 trimmings bags (3,548 lbs) and just under $200
